Clip-ins and ponytail extensions create two different shapes: loose hair that moves around your shoulders, or a gathered style with the length falling from one base. You can keep both in the same shade and switch between them. They are two separate hairpieces, worn one at a time in this guide.
Our Burgundy pairing uses Straight 8-Piece Clip-Ins for the hair-down look and a Ribbon Ponytail for the tied-back look. Both offer a 16-inch option, but the attachment, preparation and finished outline differ. Here is how to plan each style without confusing the two.
1. Wear Burgundy clip-ins with your hair down
Choose this look when you want loose lengths around your face and shoulders. The Burgundy Straight 8-Piece Clip-Ins have double wefts with built-in clips. The current 16-inch variant is listed at 125 g for the set. Eight pieces give you separate sections to place; they are not a requirement to wear every piece.
Decide whether you want a blend or a color contrast
Burgundy is listed as 99J, a deep wine-red shade. Your own hair remains visible with clip-ins. If it is a different color, the result will be a contrast rather than an all-over Burgundy transformation. Check the visible mid-lengths and ends in daylight before choosing that effect.
The straight texture also needs to work with the hairstyle you intend to wear. A pronounced difference in curl pattern will still show even when the shades are close. Use our clip-in color, texture and length matching guide if you have not narrowed those choices yet.
Build the loose style in sections
- Start with dry, detangled hair in the finish you normally wear. Set out the wefts so you can see their different widths.
- Make a horizontal section at the back. Keep enough of your own hair below and above the attachment to support and cover it.
- Open the clips and position a suitable weft close to the roots. Close each clip without trapping loose strands or pulling at the scalp.
- Release another section and add pieces only where the blend needs them. Keep clips away from fragile areas and leave enough covering hair around the part and hairline.
- Let your hair down, blend gently and check the back in a second mirror. Turn your head and lift a section lightly to check for exposed wefts or pulling.
If a clip shows, adjust the placement or remove that piece. If your own ends make a sharp shelf over the extensions, adding more hair may not solve it. Reconsider the length gap or ask a stylist about blending your haircut.
2. Change to a Burgundy ribbon ponytail
For a more gathered outline, use the Burgundy Ribbon Ponytail over your own tied-back hair. Its mesh attachment base has a built-in comb and ribbon ties. This is the ribbon design: follow its comb-and-tie method rather than instructions for a drawstring or claw-clip ponytail.
Make the base before adding the hairpiece
Your own hair needs to gather into a base that can comfortably support the piece. Choose a lower or higher position around your hair's length and coverage. A higher base changes where the ponytail ends fall; it does not change the listed length of the hairpiece.
- Remove all clip-in wefts from the first look. Detangle your own hair again before gathering it.
- Secure your natural hair into a ponytail or a compact bun, depending on its length. Keep the base comfortable rather than pulling the hairline tighter to make it feel secure.
- Position the ribbon ponytail at the base and anchor its built-in comb in your gathered hair. Do not scrape the comb along your scalp.
- Bring the ribbons around the base and tie them securely. Keep loose hair clear of the knot so removal will be easier.
- Arrange the lengths and check the attachment from the side and back. Move your head gently. If the base slips, pulls or feels heavy, take the piece off and reassess the arrangement.
The ribbon is part of the finish, so decide whether you want the tie visible. Check the hair around the base as well as the added lengths: black roots with a Burgundy ponytail create a different color effect from an all-Burgundy style.
3. Switch between clip-ins and ponytail looks
One clip-in set and one ribbon ponytail give you two alternatives for different outfits or days. The shared shade connects the looks; the separate attachments let you change the outline. You do not need to layer both products into one style.
Check what each 16-inch option means
- For clip-ins: compare the added length from the weft's intended attachment point. Check the 16-inch / 125 g variant, then consider how your own ends will overlap it.
- For the ribbon ponytail: select the 16-inch option and picture the length falling from your chosen ponytail base. Do not assume it will end at the same point as the clip-ins.
- For both: assess shade, texture, attachment coverage and comfort separately. The same color name can look different across products and lighting.
Compare three shade pairings
If Burgundy is the contrast you want, use the two Burgundy products above as your starting pair. If you want something closer to black or warm brown hair, compare these alternatives in daylight:
- Natural Black, 1B: Natural Black Straight 8-Piece Clip-Ins and the Natural Black Ribbon Ponytail. Both are described as soft black with subtle brown undertones.
- Chocolate Brown, #4: Chocolate Brown Straight 8-Piece Clip-Ins and the Chocolate Brown Ribbon Ponytail. Both are described as warm medium-to-dark brown with chocolate tones.
These are individual products, not a pre-packed two-item set. Check each selected length and what is included before ordering. If you are still deciding whether you want added hair or an overall hairstyle change, the wig, clip-ins or ponytail overview compares those broader choices.
Keep the changeover gentle
To take clip-ins out, support the weft, open every clip and lift it away without dragging it through your hair. To remove the ribbon ponytail, support the piece, untie the ribbons and release the comb before loosening your own base. Store the pieces separately after gently detangling them; let any washed hair dry fully before storage.
Before the first wear, inspect the shade, selected length, clips or comb, ribbons and condition. The current return policy requires eligible items to be unused, unworn, unwashed and unaltered, with the original packaging and required contents. Wearing, heat styling or altering a piece can make it ineligible for a routine return. Contact AUTHRIS before use if something is incorrect or uncertain.
